Mother

Mother is a 28-page, riso-printed accordion fold wearable book, made in an edition of 30. The accordian folds allow the book to expand and accomodate a range of sizes. The image, fragmented across the book in a lenticular manner, cannot be grasped all at once but can be gradually percieved as the book is turned around the wrist.

The book is informed by Rao's garment making practice and her study of kamiko (Japanese paper garments) undertaken during her 2023 CCA Islands Travel Scholarship in Japan. It was made in 2024 during her residency at the Center for Book Arts in New York where she is developing wearable publications.
