Tinctura
Tinctura (2024) was commissioned by State of Fashion, Netherlands for the State of Fashion Biennale 2024. The work was first exhibited at as part of the exhibition '...of involution, of languor...' at gallery 1Shanthiroad, Bengalūru, a sister site of the biennale and will travel to Arnhem, NL to culminate into the larger biennale.
Tinctura consists of five glass jars filled with ethyl alcohol, within which Rao macerates altered garments belonging to members of her family. She does so to create tinctures. The alcohol simultaneously extracts, preserves, and corrodes different qualities of these objects.
The accompanying text to this work, 'What does one do to the body?' was written by Chandrima Bhattacharya and the accompanying sound piece was designed by Sambit Chatterjee with Rusha Bose as it's creative producer.
